How to connect the PS2 to the net ?
Intro In the end of 2003, new adverts arrived. They were about the new technology in Playstation 2 allowing netplay. Nobody was aware of the fact, that lots of games will have a multiplayer option in the future. CAPCOM wanted to catch up with the standards, so they made network Resident Evil games. By the way check out the article about REOF2: „The Very First Time”. But first things first. We have to connect the console to the internet. That’s not as easy as it seems for a newbie... Connection methods
There are a few ways of connectiong your console to the internet. Of course we will select the ones that will suit your finances and network connection. The easiest way is to buy a router and two crossed cables. All we have to do later is connect the cables and configure a game using Network Access Disc. Things get a little more complicated if we can’t afford a router. There are two ways of handling the conection without a router. The first way is connecting the console through your computer. All you need to know is the basics of internet connections. This is a very good way because you don’t have to swich the cables everytime you want to play. You see, the console’s network adapter has one MAC adress. If the interent provider ave us only one adress, in some cases the adress can be lost for a couple of hours. This means that if we have on of those crappy modems, we won’t be able to play. This occurs because the signal is lost within the console because it is supposed to be sent to a specified address. In order to deal with this, we have to assing the MAC address to both devices. This can be changed only in our computer’s modem. To sum up: we connect the PS2 to our PC and in case of having only one MAC address per modem we wait...
